What is the CherryT Ball Drop?

The CherryT Ball Drop is an annual New Year's Eve celebration organized under the assumed name of The Festival Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This festive event raises funds to support local charities, combining celebration with a meaningful impact on the community.

What does "CherryT" mean?

Located in the heart of the cherry capital of the world, CherryT combines our love for cherries and the spirit of giving back to our community. We celebrate by dropping a giant cherry from the sky and supporting local charities. The name "CherryT" is a playful blend of "cherry" and "charity," perfectly representing the fun and local flavor of this unique event!

How did the CherryT Ball Drop get started?

In 2008, a small group of Traverse City area residents came together to create a unique event that would not only celebrate New Year's Eve but also give back to the community. In 2018, the CherryT Board of Directors passed the torch to The Festival Foundation, which now oversees the event. A dedicated committee—comprised of both former CherryT volunteers and new members from The Festival Foundation—continues to work together to uphold and grow this beloved tradition.

How much money has the CherryT Ball Drop raised?

To date, the CherryT Ball Drop has raised nearly $127,000 for local nonprofits, making a meaningful impact on the community. In the 2022/2023 event alone, $16,496 was donated to Goodwill Northern Michigan and the Northwest Food Coalition!

What is the annual attendance?

Unofficially, it is estimated that between 8,000 and 12,000 people attend this event.

When & Where is the CherryT Ball Drop event?

Who can attend the festivities?

This is a family-friendly event that everyone can enjoy! Bundle up (it gets cold out there!) and bring the whole family to celebrate the New Year together at the CherryT Ball Drop.

How much does it cost to attend?

We ask for a $5 donation per person to attend the CherryT Ball Drop. All funds raised go to local charities.

Can I see the CherryT Ball Drop from home?

Yes! Since 2018, you can watch the CherryT Ball Drop live on Facebook from the comfort of your home. Party in your pajamas and give back at the same time by joining us virtually!

Will there be entertainment?
